Coaches Q&A with Michael Matta:
Q. What are his strengths on offense?
A. Last year we used him at wide receiver and this year he will play tight end. His role is going to be very similar in what we did with Tyler Kroft. We’re going to move him around a lot this year.
His best attribute is, he works hard. He has a lot of natural God given ability. He’s a very humble kid and likes to compete. He wants to be the best at everything. There are a lot of kids that don’t want to work on things they aren’t good at. He isn’t that kid. It’s hard to be great at lifting when you are 6-foot-7 and your body is so long. He works really hard at it and tries to get bigger and stronger.
He has good hands and the basketball experience teaches him that. He has great body control and we can throw the ball up and let him make plays.
He can block and he’s a big physical kid.
Q. How much time will he see on defense this year?
A. We’re going to use him in certain times as a defensive end. As a pass rusher he’s so big and he has a big wingspan and has a great jumping ability.
College offers: As of 6/22, he has offers fromBoston College, Connecticut, Duke, Massachusetts, Miami, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State, Rutgers, Temple and Virginia
