Coaches Q&A with Rich Knox:
Q. What kind of leader is he?
A. Kids on the team want to look up to somebody that is really putting the time in and has a lot of success and kids look up to him.
He leads by example. Here’s an example of what I mean. One of the things that kids look up to him for is his toughness. So for example, we played Father Judge last year and the first offensive play of the year his entire fingernail on his throwing hand got torn off. They taped it up and it was bleeding through the bandage and he didn’t miss a snap on offense or defense. So I think it’s that kind of toughness that other kids respect.
Q. What are his strengths at quarterback?
A. He has good size and is strong. He has a strong arm and can make all the throws. He’s a playmaker and can run the ball really well. He can throw the ball with accuracy either in the pocket or on the run. When the play breaks down he’s just as dangerous as when he is in the pocket or on the run.
During the offseason he has been working hard on everything.
Q. What are his strengths on defense?
A. He’s a tough kid and very intuitive. He can read plays as they are developing and sometimes it might not be in the scheme of the defense, but he understands what the quarterback is doing. He’s a very good tackler.
