Coaches Q&A with Gabe Infante:

Q. What kind of leader is he?

A. He’s a great leader and very intelligent. He’s a very humble young man. He’s always worried about his teammates. When they are struggling academically, he’s always available to help tutor them.

He’s such a proactive young man in helping his teammates. He always wants to help people. He’s a special young man.

He wants to go to college for Biochemical Engineering.

Q. What is his strength as a defensive lineman?

A. He’s a student of the game and really knows the defense schemes. He’s a really smart young man and that is his biggest asset.

We can move him around anywhere on the field and what a huge asset that is. It doesn’t matter where we put him on the field. He knows what everybody does on every call.

Traditionally we play him at the strong side at defensive end because most teams in high school run the ball off tackle at the strong side. So we like to put our best player there.

Q. How much will he play on offense and what are his strengths at tight end?

A. He’s on the field playing tight end about half of the game and is a very good blocker.

Q. What is he doing in the offseason?

A. Jake was a sophomore with Jon Daniel. We used to start practice with one-on-ones and we put them together every day. They have been doing this for three years and I think that’s why they both are great players today. Both guys get after each other like nobody’s business. That is a perfect example of two guys who have made each other better.
