Coaches Q&A with Calvin Everett:

Q. What are his strengths at wide receiver?

A. He’s an excellent route runner and is very smooth. He has very soft hands and catches everything with his hands, not with his body. He’s very good at making people miss and gets yards after the catch.

He’s a guy that we’re going to play him everywhere. He’s going to play outside, inside and in the backfield.

He’s our playmaker. We want him to get as many touches as we can get him.

Q. What are his strengths on defense?

A. It depends if some other guys step up and prove they can play back there. If not then, he will be playing a lot more on defense for us this year.

He’s a very smart player and understands what offenses are trying to do. He’s very good at breaking to the ball, is a physical player and has good vision.

Q. How is he as a returner?

A. He did a great job last year as a kick and punt returner. I think he returned four kicks for touchdowns last year.

He has great speed and is good at making people miss and in open space.

Q. What’s he doing in the offseason?

A. He’s doing everything, strength and conditioning programs. He’s working on all the things to get better.

Q. Talk about his commitment to Temple?

A. Temple was the one school he was very interested in from day one. His sister just graduated there last year and he was very familiar with the campus.

When he was down there for a camp they showed him so much love. It wasn’t just the coaches, but the players too. It was the starting quarterback that went to the coach and said you have to offer this kid a spot and let’s get him on the team.

Q. Final thoughts on Amechie?

A. He’s a great kid on and off the field and he represents what a student/athlete should be.
