Coaches Q&A with Chris Walkowiak:
Q. What kind of leader is he?
A. He is a team player. I doesn’t matter if he is getting the ball or if he’s blocking. His attitude is, “What ever you need coach.” That’s his attitude.
He is a hard worker and wants to get better. He spends extra time in practice and in the weight room. He has a great work ethic.
He showed us his leadership ability early on. As a freshman, he held a team meeting.
He has only missed one game in his career. He doesn’t like to come off the field, even on special teams. He wants to play every down.
Last year he was a captain on the team and he’s a great role model for our younger players.
Q. What are his strengths as a linebacker?
A. The first thing I say about him is, he is explosive. He’s very strong and a tremendous tackler. He plays sideline-to-sideline.
He is a student of the game. He uses his hands very well at shedding blockers and getting to the ball carry.
He is the complete package. He’s good at communicating and giving direction.
Q. What are his strengths as a tailback and fullback?
A. He’s a physical runner. He’s very strong and he will run over you if you are in his way. But he can make a move if he has too.
He is versatilite player. We can line him up at the fullback position and he can make a great block to free one of our runners or we can line him up at the tailback position and use him there.
He can get us the short yardage if we need it in a game. If we need two, he get’s us three. He is a competitor.
Sometimes we put him out as a receiver. We also line him up as a quarterback in the wild cat. He has good hands.
