Coaches Q&A with Dominic Vecchio:

Q. What kind of leader is he?

A. The younger players look up to him. He leads by example on and off the field. Everyone likes him, his very smart and is a good role model in our community.

Q. How important is he to your offense?

A. He’s critical to our offense, we run the option and he is our triggerman. Last year people took him away more which created a big year for our running back.

This year teams will have to contain three or four of our guys. What I mean by that is, you have to try and stop our fullback and stop Jan, and then you have to stop the pitchman. I expect us to be pretty effective this year.

This year we are excepting him to have a big year for us. He’s very good at looking what a defender does and if they do one thing, he gives it. If a defender does another thing, he keeps it.

Q. What are his strengths as a defensive player?

A. His best attribute is he has an excellent feel for the game. It’s amazing when the ball is on the ground he is always around. He’s a tough kid, a hard hitter and good tackler.

He is on the field on defense 70% of the time.
