Coaches Q&A with David Hand:

Q. How’s his leadership?

A. His leadership is off the charts. He is the first junior captain that I have been around. He leads by example and this year he’s taking the next step and being more vocal. He’s really taking the team over and put it on his back in this offseason.

Q. When he does play defense for you this year, what are his strengths?

A. He is a smart player and takes really good angles. He’s a very good hitter and tackler. He can go up and grab the ball from a player. He can play sideline-to-sideline.

Q. What are his strengths as a quarterback?

A. He really has a strong arm and can make all the throws. He is more mobile than people give him credit. He rushed for 10 touchdowns last year. He has really good feet and very good lower body strength. He is very balanced with his throws and he is good at finding the open player.

We run the no huddle offense and he will be making the audible. Every play we do has a read competent. It could be a run or pass option.

Q. Do you use him on special teams?

A. Yes, he is our punter and kicker. He’s got a strong leg and is a very good punter. No one has ever returned a touchdown on us, because he is such a good tackler.
