Coaches Q&A with Phil Stambaugh:

Q. What kind of leader is he?

A. He’s a good leader on both sides of the ball. He has a lot of varsity experience playing basketball and football. We have been young the last two years and it was a guy like him as a sophomore that stepped in immediately and had to be a leader for us. Overall the team didn’t have a lot of experience and he was one of the guys that had a little because of basketball.

He had moved around for us and played a lot of different spots and he is a kid that makes the people around him better. He’s excited about going out for practice and that really helps us. He sets the tempo for us in practice.

Q. What are his strengths on defense?

A. He’s a natural athlete. A lot of stuff comes pretty easy to him, but he is also able to pickup what the offense is doing. He follows the ball well, has great awareness on the field and at times we try and move him up to play strong safety.

His best position is free safety and with him in the middle of the field he can see a lot more. He was great at breaking up passes and making a lot of tackles for us.

He is a point guard in basketball and he sees the game the same way on the football field.

Q. Are you going to move him around on offense this year?

He is a talented guy for us offensively. He’s a guy we need to get the ball into his hands because he makes plays. He had good numbers for us last year and we are excited to see what he does this year as a senior.
