Anthony Gonzalez, Junior QB, Bethlehem Liberty High School
When Anthony Gonzalez was given the reins of the Liberty offense in 2007, he was stepping into the enormous shoes vacated by Dan Persa, who was bound for Evanston, Illinois and Northwestern University and who had led the Hurricanes to two straight PIAA finals. Gonzalez, owner of not one college scholarship offer, certainly grabbed the attention of many folks with his play in the 2008 PIAA finals, accounting for 302 of Liberty’s 428 yards of offense. His season statistics – 1,697 rushing yards, 1,585 passing yards, and 36 total touchdowns – are also impressive. Just by himself, Gonzalez averaged 205.1 yards of offense per game in 2008. He led a Liberty offense which averaged 31.5 points and over 230 rushing yards per game.

He is a phenomenel player and he is only a junior. If you think he’s good this year, watch out as a senior he will be unstopable. Great year Anthony. Cant wait till next year. GO CANES!!! STATE CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!
