cantonHead Coach Jay Perry Q&A

Q. What are the key things we should know about your offense?

A. Our strength this year is our skill players. We have a lot of team speed in the backfield and we are going to take advantage of it with the style of offense we will be running.

Heading that offense is 4-year starter and quarterback, John Bowman. He had 1700 combined yards last year and is set to have a breakout year.

Fellow senior, Tyler Cole, a 6′ 200 pound running back will help to anchor the offense. We are looking for big things on the line from returning lettermen Mason Martell and Brady Bryington.

They will be assisted by upcoming 6’1″ 285 pound sophomore, Seth Robbins and 6’6″, 215 pound sophomore tight end, Parker Jones. We look for Jones to have a break out year as well.

Q. What are the key things we should know about your defense?

A. Speed, again, will be the main characteristic of our defense this year.  We have a bunch of holes to be filled after last year’s graduation, but we have a group of very athletic underclassmen ready to step in.

Noah Barnett, a junior, will be anchoring the secondary along with senior Mason Moore. They will be helped with newcomers such as Theron Binford, Cody Van Ryn, Brett Matthews and Trevor Route.

Senior, Travis Butcher, along with juniors Malachi Washington and Bryce Cole will be stepping into new roles at linebacker.

We will be a hard defense to figure out showing multiple looks with lots of pressure.

Q. What are the key things we should know about your special teams? Who are your kick and punt returners? Who are your kicker and punter?

A. We have a big job in trying to fill the kicking duties vacated by Brian Jannone, who is now kicking in DII and punter Chase Pepper. They were extremely valuable to our team last year and we will be working hard to find suitable replacements.

In the return department, returning lettermen Tyler Cole and Noah Barnett will be in line to continue their duties from the year before and Cody Van Ryn and Theron Binford will challenge them for those spots.
