Q. What are the key things we should know about your offense?
A. Junior Raleigh Sirb is our only returning RB with significant experience. Senior RB Chimdi Okpara has the potential to have a big year. Senior FB Steven McNeal has a ton of experience, mainly as a lead blocker.
Junior TE Rashaun Gabriel started as a sophomore midway through 2013. Senior OL Dylan Hobbs and Enrique Armas both started a couple games last year due to injury.
We have no WR returning that played on Friday nights. And our QB will also be a newcomer to Friday Nights
Much like our entire team, we are going to be young on offense. The majority of our starters will most likely be underclassmen.
Q. What are the key things we should know about your defense?
A. Senior LB Steven McNeal led our team in tackles in 2013. (He and Senior kicker, Jake Kerschner are the two lone all-conference players returning this year) Junior OLB Reid Albright had a very productive sophomore year. Senior DL Elijah Robinson had a solid junior year and Junior DL Joe Williams also had a good 2013 campaign. In the secondary, all four that saw action are not back for 2014 so they will all be new faces back there.
Junior LB Zach Hoffman started a couple games in 2013 and is poised to have a nice year.
Q. Top Newcomers or expected breakout players:
A. Along with the players already mentioned, SR WR/DB Jordan Hatcher is 6’2” 200 pounds and is poised for a good year potentially. We also return our Junior Punter, Hansen Rowe, who had a solid sophomore year in 2013.
Because we have so many juniors and sophomore newcomers, we are looking forward to putting the pads on to see who can do what. It’s unlike any year since I’ve been at CD in terms of how young we are and how many young players are legitimately vying for positions.
