Q. What are the key things we should know about your offense?
A. We are a ball control, run first offense. Our goal is to reduce turnovers. We try to shorten up the game by keeping the ball out of the other teams’ hands. We do this by winning the time of possession battle (bucking the current up tempo trend).
We are very senior heavy at the skills position this year. They are a mix of returning players and incoming cadets. We are going to lean on senior running back Bronson Szallar. He is a tough, hard nosed runner that has the right vision and cutback ability for our running scheme. In the last two games of 2013 he averaged 120 yards and 2 tds per game. Everest Williams will be our fullback and we expect explosive blocking and runs from him.
Senior wide receiver Darius Daniels was our most improved player from last year and it continued through the offseason. He has looked exceptional in camp so far and we expect him to make some big plays when the ball is thrown to him.
Returning senior QB Aaron Haley and incoming senior from Pocono Mountain West Tyler Scott are in a battle for the QB1 position. Both have been excellent in camp as leaders of the offense. Senior Tight End Darius Morgan is a 6’6”, 245lbs double threat tool that we think has the frame and athletic ability to get D1 offers.
Our line is young, motivated, and athletic. We have been very pleased with their progression from last November. They are anchored by returning sophomore Christopher Byrd and junior Seamus Mooney.
Q. What are the key things we should know about your defense?
A. We are going to run an aggressive attacking system. Our goal this season is to sure up our tackling, increase our pursuit rate, and increase our takeaways.
Our line will be anchored by sophomore Chris Byrd inside. He will be joined by seniors Darius Morgan and Christian Schneider and juniors Kyle Greco and Seamus Mooney.
The backbone of our defense should be our linebacker corps. Seniors Aaron Haley, Bariq London, Everest Williams and Tyler Scott will be joined by sophomore Auduley Issacs. They are all playmakers that will fit our fast aggressive style.
The back end of our defense will be led by three senior defensive backs. Darius Daniels, Tyree Lane and Bronson Szaller are all returning for their second year in the system and should be much improved.
Q. What are the key things we should know about your special teams? Who are your kick and punt returners? Who are your kicker and punter?
A. We are looking for our special teams to be much improved, as we need them to be an advantage. Incoming senior Gavin O’Brien from LaSalle University High School will handle both the punting and kicking duties.
Bronson Szaller and Darius Daniels will handle the return duties.
