Special Teams: “Todd Zechman is our kicking coach and he does a great job. We have a good relationship with our soccer program and had great kickers lately. John Masano has the edge as our extra point guy. Daniel Faust may be our kickoff guy. He has a strong leg. Tom Paolini may be one of the guys doing the punt/ kick return duties. Some other guys are battling for playing time.”

Coaches comments:

How’s your offensive line?

“Cody Cox is the only returning starter from last season. He will play tackle position. The other tackle will be Logan Jones. Our left guard is Chris Eaton. He got a lot of playing time last year. Daniel Sweitzer is the other guard. Our senior center will by Josh Pappas. Anthony Colon is a guard that will rotate in.”

Who will be your quarterback this year?

“There is a battle between Mason Duguay and Scott Kuczala. Mason is more of a drop back passer. Scott is a little bit better on the run.”

How’s your running game look?

“We have no starters back, but Scott McAvoy is back. He saw significant playing time and played just as much as the starters in the playoffs. The other half back is Tom Paolini. He is going to be a good one. Our fullback will be Caleb Naylor. Brian Weber will add depth at running backs.”

How do your receivers look?

“Sean Smith has great hands. His uncle was a great football player for us. He played four-years at Temple. He could catch a ball with one hand and Sean is the same way. Another guy is Liam Reedy. He has looked good in the off-season.The other spot is open for competition this summer.”

How about your defensive line?

“Logan Jones is back. He was our nose guard. Cody Cox will be at tackle. The other defensive tackle is up in the air. Daniel Sweitzer may get some playing time. Finnegan Daly may get some playing time at end. It’s possible that Mason Duguay could be in the mix and more like our weak side defensive end. Another guy that may see action at end is Anthony Colon.”

How are your linebackers?

“We have pretty much all new linebackers this year. Depending on the offense we may have one, two or three linebackers out there. Scott McAvoy will be our middle linebacker. Sam Weaver will see action. Chris Eaton got a lot of playing time at our weak side linebacker spot. Eaton is our leader on defense. Pete Geyer is another guy that will see some playing time at linebacker.”

How about your secondary?

“We have back, Tom Paolini. He is going to be a good one and he got a lot of playing time last year. He had the fourth down pass breakup in the end zone in the state championship game. He’s going to alternate from corner to safety at times and is a good cover guy. Pete Bonino will be back there. Liam Reedy will see some time. We have some young guys battling for some playing time.”

What are your concerns going into this season?

“We need our quarterbacks to be consistent. Our biggest problem on both sides is building some depth. We are fine with our first team on both sides of the ball. We have to develop and get some of the young kids on the field. On defense we need to defend the pass. Right now we are still trying to find guys.”

“One thing for sure we can’t get hurt. We don’t have a lot of depth at the beginning of the season. A lot of things fell right for us last year. We had one tackle miss four games and that was it.”

What is your strength on defense?

“On defense our strength is on the line against the run. Our front seven or eight defends the run very well.”

Note: 7/30/13 – Wyomissing Area suffered a injury to one of their key players this summer after we did the interview with Bob Wolfrum. Coach notified us that RB/LB Scott McAvoy suffered a foot injury and will be in a cast for six weeks and some time after that.

“We hope to get some young guys to give us some playing time until Scott can come back.”
