Coaches comments:
How’s your offensive line?
“We have our right tackle back. He is Temple recruit James McHale. He is a big kid, 6-foot-7, 290-pounds. Our center is returning and he is Dan Drewes. He started every game his freshman year and has about 26 career starts. He will be a junior this year. Dan Hart and Matt Muraco are battling for playing time. At the guard positions we have Stephen McMynee, Jake Makowski and Kyle Oprisko battling this summer. Sophomore Chris Coviello is another guy in the mix. At tackle Blake Boland adds depth.”
“At tight end we are looking at Bob Stout. Another tight end is Joe Waters.”
Who’s your quarterback?
“We have returning at quarterback, Brandon Kujawski. He started the last eight games for us last year. He did really well for us. He passed for about 700 yards and 10 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Eric Deluccie adds depth at the quarterback position.”
How’s your running game look?
“We have our returning tailback back. He was our leading rusher last year for us. He is Daiqwon Buckley. He is an outstanding athlete and a excellent runner. Sal Marchese had some experience from last year and will backup Buckley. Another guy with some experience is Joe Maceyko. He is coming along real well this summer. Freshmen Colin Holmes and Michael Dougherty may see limited playing time.”
Note: Buckley rushed for 1,799 yards on 213 carries and 23 touchdowns. He averaged 8.45 yards per carry.
“We have our fullback back and he is Josh Sawka. Justin Rogan will be in the mix for playing time at fullback.”
How do your receivers look?
“We are moving our tight end Josh Zilla to split end. The other wide receiver is going to be Shakal Blackwell. Tyler Lasher and Jason Kraycer may see some action. We have a freshman that we think can help us and he is Michael Dougherty. ”
How’s your defensive line?
“The only one we have returning on the line is one of our defensive ends. He is Bob Stout. We have our defensive tackles back and they are the two Drewes boys, Dan and Tim. James McHale is another guy on the line for us. Kyle Oprisko, Stephen McMynee and Jake Makowski will be in the mix for playing time this year. Joe Waters may play defensive end for us.”
How do your linebackers look?
“We have our two linebackers back. Josh Sawka and Daiqwon Buckley. Joe Waters may play linebacker when he isn’t on the defensive line. Justin Rogan is the other linebacker that will get in there. Garrett Murray who is going to be a sophomore, is a good sized kid and runs well. He will play for us at linebacker.”
How’s your secondary look?
“We have a kid that played a lot at nickel back and we are going to move him to strong safety. He is Matt Rogan. He didn’t play our last two games because of a hand injury. But he’s back and healthy. Shakal Blackwell is back at corner. Sal Marchese will be our nickel back. Michael Dougherty may see time at free safety. We had another key guy that was going to play for us back there, his name is Jason Kraycer. He got hurt in a passing scrimmage this summer and will miss the whole season.”
What is your key this year?
“We need to throw the ball a lot better than we did last year. People are going to gang up on Buckley with eight men in the box. Brandon Kujawski is coming along real well for us and Eric Deluccie. These guys need to improve the passing game for us. If we are successful it will help our running game this year. We have to replace three out of the four players in our secondary. The only one we have coming back there is Shakal Blackwell.”
