EASTON – Emmaus senior quarterback Jake Fotta had a night to remember. He rushed for three touchdowns and connected on two touchdown passes to Dylan Darville.
“I couldn’t have done it without my teammates tonight,” said Fotta. “The offensive line did a great job tonight opening up holes.”
It all added up to an Emmaus (8-1) 42-21 road win over Easton Area (3-6) Friday night at Cottingham Stadium. The win breaks a three-game losing streak for the Green Hornets.
“I thought we played well in all three phases of the game,” said Head Coach Harold Fairclough. “We need to clean up some things, but we have room for improvement going into the final week.”
Fotta finished the night completing 9 of 13 passes for 266 yards and Darville caught nine passes for 237 yards.
“I thought Fotta and Darville had a great connection tonight,” said Fairclough. “They were clicking tonight.”
The first play of the game was a 55-yard run by Easton’s running back Aidan Hutchison to the Emmaus 30. Their defense held and took over on downs. Fotta had three touchdown runs and a touchdown pass to Darville in the first half.
Aidan Hutchinson scored for Easton on a one-yard touchdown run to tie the game up at seven with 11:56 left in the first half. But, Emmaus answered right back. Fotta hit Darville in stride for a 74-yard touchdown pass. The score was 14-7 Green Hornets.
Easton answered with another Hutchinson touchdown. This time from two yards out. But Fotta orchestrated another scoring drive. This time he scored from 15 yards out.
Hutchinson would finish the night rushing for 155 yards on 24 carries. At halftime, Emmaus led 28-14.
In the third quarter, more of the same. Another drive, another score. Fotta threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Darville on the opening drive of the second half. Emmaus extended their lead to 35-14.
Emmaus’ Chase Fotta intercepted a pass to set up another Green Hornets score. Josiah Williams finished the drive by going in from six yards out.
Late in the game, Easton Area’s quarterback Joseph Martinez found JuJu Fears for a 20-yard touchdown pass.
With the win by Emmaus, they hold the number one spot in the District 2/4/11 Class 6A power ratings. Easton Area drops to number 10.
