In a game that featured 100 points, 1,104 yards of total offense and four lead changes, Andrew DePietro caught a 21 yard touchdown pass from Ryan Corkery with 16 second left in the game to give 5th seeded Garnet Valley a 52-48 win over 13th seeded Central Bucks South at Moe DeFrank Stadium on the campus of Garnet Valley on Friday nite.
The winning score was set up when Corkery was sacked by Dan Bechta on the 36 yard line of the Titans on fourth down effectively ending any chance the Jaguars had. But the ball was fumbled and picked up by lineman Ray Walker and he tried to advance it. As he was taken town, a facemask penality happened and Garnet Valley was given a first down on the CB South 21. The Jaguars then scored on the next play to take the lead. Corkery finished with 162 yards on 8-13 passing.
“We have a great coaching staff here”, said DePietro “That had us ready for a game like this. To make a play like this was just outstanding”.
CB South (8-4) took a 48-45 lead with 3::43 left in the game when Virginia bound Quarterback Matt Johns ran 23 yards for a touchdown. Johns finished his final game with 12 completions in 23 attempts for 182 yards but was intercepted twice including one on the first play after the last touchdown.
“We told the kids that it could possibly be this type of game”, said Garnet Valley Coach Mike Ricci. “I’ve been involved in some wild games, but this has to be the wildest “, he added
Garnet Valley, winners of 11 straight after an opening night loss to neighboring Unionville, rolled up 613 yards of total offense, 463 on the ground. Jordyn Bennett led the Jaguars with 188 yards on 10 carries, four for touchdowns on runs of 60, 4, 41 and 4. Justin Pyle added 161 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 1, 2 and 1 yards.
CB South’s Dan Brown scored 6 touchdowns on runs of 35, 53, 4, 9, 1 and 48 yards on his way to a game high 240 yards rushing on 29 carries.
“They came as advertised, said Ricci, whose team now travels to Newtown to play Council Rock South in the semi-finals next Friday nite
