Philadelphia Catholic League Players of the Week Week of Oct. 13th, 2023

Offensive Player of the Week:

-Semaj Beals – Roman – QB – Soph.

-Beals maintained his torrid pace to start the season with a 15-for-22, 328 yards and 3 TD showing in the Cahillites, 34-3, win over Archbishop Wood. Beals scoring passes covered 38, 8 and 80 yards, respectively. Also, with 1,974 yards on the year, Beals has surpassed Michael Keir’s ’12 (1,837) Roman record for most passing yards in a season.

Offensive Honor Roll:

-Mehki Wharton – Neum.-Gor. – QB – Sr.: Passed 10-for-18 with 168 yards. Supplied the game’s only scoring with a 30-yard TD pass.

-Amahj Gowens – Neum-Gor. – WR – Soph.: Gowens scored the game’s only touchdown on a 30-yard pass off a deflected pass. In all, he made five catches for 72 yards

-Keon Powell – O’Hara – RB – Sr.: Powell managed 87 yards on 10 carries, including a 56-yard TD gallop.

-Isaiah West – SJ Prep – RB – Jr.: Turned 8 touches into 163 yards on offense and two scores.

-Samaj Jones – SJ Prep – QB – Sr.: Passed 12-for-120, 201 yards and 3 scores. Also, rushed 6 times for 40 yards another score.

-Jacahi Streeter – Lansdale Cath. RB – Jr.: Raced to 173 yards on just 14 carries (12.4 ypc) and scored three of his team’s touchdowns on rushes.

 

Defensive Player of the Week:

-Chris Ulmer – Lansdale Cath. – LB – Jr.

-Ulmer led his Crusaders’ defense in holding Archbishop Ryan to just 3 points in a confortable, 24-3, LC victory. All totaled, Ulmer registered 13 total tackles, including 2.5 sacks that accumulated 18 yards in losses

Defensive Honor Roll:

-Luke Van Brill – Roman – LB – Sr.: Paced the Cahillite defense with 8 tackles.

-Jaden Todd – Neum.-Gor. – OLB – Sr.: Helped the Saints shutout Bonner-Prendie with a team-high 8 tackles.

-James Wright – Arch. Carroll – LB – Sr.: Wright hustled for 9 tackles, including a TFL and a forced fumble.

-Sammy Dantonka – O’Hara – DE – Frosh.: Made his presence felt with 11 tackles, including three for losses.

-Dillon DiBattista – O’Hara – DL – Sr.: Registered a pair of sacks and one other TFL amongst his five total stops.

-Sean McNulty – SJ Prep – LB – Sr.: Notched two each of sacks and TFLs that accumulated 16 yards in losses.

 

Special Teams Player of the Week:

-Zion Knox – Cardinal O’Hara – OLB/DE – Sr.

-Knox, not once, but twice blocked kicks, as the Lions squeaked out a 14-13 win over Conwell-Egan. First, Knox snuffed-out an extra-point that would’ve tied the game. Later on, he broke loose through the line to squash a 30-yard FG attempt that would’ve given the Eagles a 4th quarter lead. He also added 6 tackles and fumble recovery on defense.

Multi-Purpose Player of the Week:

-Eric Smith – Father Judge – Sr. – MP/LB/PR

Smith is making a habit of getting his positive paws in multiple phases for the Crusaders. In Judge’s, 35-7, win at Conestoga, Smith rumbled for 92 yards on 16 carries and snagged four passes for 48 yards. He provided a touchdown on both a rush and a reception. Smith added 40 yards on a pair of punt returns. Defensively, he contributed 5 tackles.

Spectacular in Defeat:

-Dylan Clair – LaSalle – LB – Jr.

-The Explorers didn’t fair well versus their mighty rivals St. Joe’s Prep, but Clair was impactful nonetheless. Displaying hustle throughout, he managed 6 tackles, including a sack, and added an interception and a fumble recovery.
