On Thursday, February 22nd, the school board members voted unanimously to approve assistant football coach, Cody Botts, as the new Head Football Coach for Mifflinburg.

Last month, Jason Dressler resigned as head football coach.

“Jason was my Head Coach in high school and he’s been a huge supporter during my entire football career,” said Botts. “Someone I’ve always looked up to and went to for advice. I’ve learned invaluable lessons in leadership and discipline from Coach Dressler.”

“His unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of discipline within the team, both on and off the field, has left a lasting impact on me. The importance of setting high standards, maintaining accountability, and instilling a strong work ethic are principles I aim to carry forward in my new role as Head Coach.”

Cody is a 2016 graduate of Mifflinburg and a 2020 graduate of Lycoming College.

“I started 31 straight games at LT and was named team captain there my senior year. Multiple awards through Lycoming College, the Middle Atlantic Conference, the National Football Foundation, and the College Hall of Fame.”

After graduating from Lycoming, he started his teaching and coaching career.

“I started teaching at Lewisburg HS, where I taught social studies. I coached one year there under Marc Persing. My second year of teaching at Lewisburg, I coached at Susquehanna University under HC Tom Perkovich. I was the TE’s coach and assistant offensive line coach. The past two years, I was an assistant at Mifflinburg under coach Dressler. I was the offensive line coach and run game coordinator.”

Cody is a teacher in the district. He was a social studies teacher in his first year at Mifflinburg. “Midway through this school year, I switched positions and am now the business education teacher at the high school.”

“At the end of the day, I knew I wanted to be a football coach, but the opportunity to do so at the school I graduated from has been a dream come true.”

“Mifflinburg is a special place to me and a town/school that has provided me with so many opportunities in life. For me, I think the best part of being the Head Coach here at Mifflinburg is that I have the opportunity to lead and inspire the next generation of players on the same fields where I once played.”
