Even-numbered years have been kind to Riverside of late. 2008 – a 13-1 record, District 2 championship and berth in the PIAA quarterfinals opposite Schuylkill Haven. 2010 – a 14-2 record, District 2 championship, demolition of Southern Columbia and berth in the PIAA championship game opposite Clairton.
But during which the Vikings held a 24-point lead. 2012 might be pointing to more of the same recent success – between offense and defense, Riverside returns a boatload of experience, including two-way lineman Tyler Armillay, quarterback Nicholas Dranchak (a career 2,600-yard passer), tight end Mike Loftus and receiver Dave Sweetman, among others. The Vikings upended Dunmore in the D2 playoffs last year before bowing to rival Old Forge in the title game.
