Southern Columbia seems to be almost an annual fixture in football preseason rankings, and that’ll happen when you have only three seasons with less than 10 victories since 1984, win 20 District 4 championships and appear in a state-record 13 PIAA title games. Coming off of a 14-2 season, the Tigers must find a way to replace a combined 3,200 yards rushing from Tyler Levan and Matt Moore, and quarterback Brad Fegley was most efficient in passing, avoiding throwing an interception all season, even against Clairton.
Backup field general Taylor Young, fullback Adam Fuedale and a pair of starting offensive linemen, Ryan Cherwinski and Josh Tripp, return, as do tight end Jake Becker, kicker Dylan Swank, linebacker Matt Lupold, and a few others. Given the returning experience up front, it figures to be only a matter of time before Southern’s new skill guys find their stride.
