OCEAN CITY NJ: For the eight year the Cardinal O’Hara Lions traveled out of PA for their season opener. And for the 8th year the Lions ended up at Fenton Carey Stadium in Ocean City, New Jersey. When asked about the reason why his Lions travel down to Jersey Shore head coach Dan Algeo responded “Delaware County is a big shore community, everyones down here so we said why not try a game down here and see  how it goes.

The Lions for the three year in a row was the Archbishop Ryan Raiders. Previously the Lions have host Archbishop Wood, Bishop Shannahan and Archbishop Carroll all of which as fell victim to the Lions. Raiders coach Frank McArdle said that when the Carroll and Wood ended up in the same  division of the Catholic League Algeo approached him about keeping the game going and the Raiders were more then happy to do so. And for the second time the Raiders gave the Lions all they could handle falling to the Lions 24-21 last year and then 13-7  on Saturday.

The Lions took the opening kickoff and drove down 72 yards on 11 plays before Dashawn Darden connected with Joe DeMaio for a 25 yard touchdown.

In the second quarter the Lions tacked on to their lead with a four yard scramble by Darden. The extra point would be no good giving the Lions the 13-0 heading into intermission.

From that point on the Lions defense led by Nick Moriconi who was playing his first game at Linebacker after spending last season at Defensive End. Moriconi and the defense didn’t let the Lions down holding the Raiders to 140 yards of totla offense. The lone blemish was a two yard touchdown run by Jeremiah Agrio on the first play of the fourth quarter. “I thought our defense played really well” Algeo said adding Defensive Coordinator Mike Marotta had a great game plan.  Moriconi added he thought the defense played really well and hopes they continue to get better every week.

Next Saturday The Lions travel to Haverford to take on the Haverford School Fords, while the Raiders travel to Wissahickon Friday night
