Coaches comments:
How’s your offensive line look?
“We have one player returning on the offensive line. He is center Alijah Burno. This will be his second year as a starter. We have three guys competing for the guard spot. They are Payton Crosson, Long Tran and Jerrell Mitchell. Our projected left tackle is going to be a good one. I think he has the potential to be a great football player. He is Aaron Seigle. Our projected right tackle is Brad Thomas. Brad played tight end for them last year. We have nice size from tackle to tackle, about 6-foot-2, 260-pound average. They all move well and four of them are wrestlers and they understand leverage. They have lack of varsity experience, but that will come.”
How’s your quarterback?
“We have a great quarterback competition going on now, amongst three kids. We have two juniors. They are Malachi Simpson and Paul Diamond. Sophomore Ben Moser is the other quarterback. It’s a close battle and each kid brings something different to the table. Malachi is a tall kid and is a pocket passer. Paul is a good option quarterback and he throws the ball very well on the run. Moser does a little bit of everything. It’s been fun this summer. For us it’s going to be a decision that probably won’t come until after the first scrimmage or maybe into the second scrimmage. They are all pretty good quarterbacks.”
How’s your running game?
“We have two running backs coming back. They are Lorin Butler and Takhi Turner. Lorin last year was our third leading rusher and played a lot. We are excited about him this year. Takhi will give us a good inside presence. We have H-Backs that we will use as fullbacks too. They are Dominic Caruso and Logan Sangree-Hills.”
How about your receivers?
“We are deep at receiver. Jordan Millberry pound-for-pound is our best player. At times you will see him line up as a running back, receiver and in the wild cat formation. Lawrence Holley is a big target. We have two juniors. They are Jaquan Blair and Gary Penn. Then we have a sophomore that has the potential to be a game breaker. He is Chris Ciotti. He is explosive. Logan Sangree-Hills will play some tight end. Ben Walker will be the other tight end. He blocks well and runs well.”
How’s your defensive line?
“Our defensive end Jared Folks is the only returning starter. Jared is a Temple commit. He committed back in July. He’s going to play outside linebacker at Temple. In our scheme he is going to play defensive end and outside linebacker. Our nose tackle is going to be Alijah Burno. At the other end we have a battle going on there. It’s between Brad Thomas and Khyree Downing. Khyree reminds me a lot of Averee Robinson. He has a bright future ahead of him. Another defensive lineman we are going to use is sophomore Chris Uzokwe. We have a fifth lineman he is Aaron Seigle. We are going to rotate a lot of guys and use multiple fronts.”
How’s your linebackers?
“We have two insider linebackers returning that had some playing time. They are Dominic Caruso and Taobias Click. My projected outside linebackers are Logan Sangree-Hills and Jared Folks.”
How about your defensive backs?
“I think our secondary is going to be the best secondary we had here at Susquehanna. Three of the kids are division one prospects. They are safety Takhi Turner. Takhi had eight interceptions for us last year. He is a great down hill runner. At corner we have Lawrence Holley. He runs well and he has eight offers from Division one schools. The other corner is Jordan Millberry. Jordan is our best athlete on the team.”
What is your key for a successful season?
“The offense and defensive line. As a staff we know it depends on how the O-line and D-line develops. If they come around well and they are doing good things we will have a chance to be a good team.”
What is your strength on defense?
“Our secondary, we have three division one kids back there. We have a lot of experience. They are all three-year players.”
