Conference: Lancaster-Lebanon League, Section 2

Class: AAA

Nickname: Barons

Coach: Mike Williams

2012 Record: 9-3

Returning Players – Offense: Sr. C Nate Brandt; Sr. OG Michael Brown; Sr. OG Jay Swayne; Jr. OT Chad Zunich; Sr. QB Colin Fry; Sr. RB Ian Hanselman; Jr. RB Marc Royer; Jr. WR Dan Wiederrecht; Sr. TE Taylor Geib; Sr. WR Andrew Seiverling

Returning Players – Defense: Sr. DL Rey Lasanta; Sr. DL Wade Beamesderfer; Sr. ILB Ian Hanselman; Jr. ILB Justin Moreno; Sr. OLB Taylor Geib; Sr. S Nick Brubaker; Sr. CB Andrew Seiverling

Special Teams: “Wade Beamesderfer returns at punter. He returns with good experience. We have two kickers. Jon Hershey was our kickoff guy last year. He is battling for place kicking duties. The other kicker is Damon Crouse. We could split the duties again with both players or one guy could win the starting job. We feel we have two good kickers and a punter. Guys we are looking at for the return game are Dan Wiederrecht and Zachary Sylvester. Both kids are really fast. But we are still working out other kids at kick/punt return.”

Top Newcomers: Jr. OL Hugh Montgomery; Jr OL Michael Leas

Coaches comments:

How’s your offensive line?

“We have four starters returning on the offensive line. They are Nate Brandt. He is our center. Michael Brown will be at left guard. My right guard most likely will be Jay Swayne. My right tackle will be Chad Zunich. It’s still to be determined who starts at the other tackle position. But, Hugh Montgomery and Mike Leas could fill the fifth spot on the line at left tackle. ”

“Taylor Geib is back at tight end. He is a combination tight end and wide receiver. He was first team All-State last year and we think he is going to be real good. If we go four-wide at receiver he could be our inside slot receiver.

Note: Geib had a big year for the Barons catching 53 passes for 1,063 yards and 11 touchdowns.

You have experience at the quarterback position coming back. Talk about Colin.

“Colin Fry is a very good leader and is fully committed to the task at hand. Colin is respected by teammates, he has good football knowledge and does what the coaches ask. He is a tough kid and communicates well.”

Note: Fry completed 127 of 217 (58%) passes for 2,114 yards and 22 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He rushed for 373 yards on 79 carries and 14 touchdowns.

How’s your running game?

“We have two pretty good running backs returning. They are Ian Hanselman and Marc Royer. Ian is about 220-pounds and a powerful runner. Marc is our speedster. We have power and speed at the running game and it’s a nice one-two punch. At times they may be in the back field by themselves or together. Justin Moreno will see some time at  fullback. He could be a blocking back for us in the backfield.”

How do your receivers look?

“Dan Wiederrecht returns at wide receiver. He’s our split end. Andrew Seiverling is back. He is another inside slot receiver. Zachary Sylvester is a kid that has looked good in 7-on-7 this summer and he could be one the guys we are looking at when we go four-wide and with Matt Carter.

How’s your defensive line?

“We have Rey Lasanta returning. He played tackle for us last year and we may move him to end. Another guy returning is Wade Beamesderfer. He played as much as the starters did last year. Wade probably will be defensive end, but may play some tackle. As far as other players we may take a guy like Chad Zunich and put him in at times on the line. We do have experience coming back and we have some young kids in the mix. At times we may move kids around.”

How do your linebackers look?

“Ian Hanselman returns at linebacker. He had three interceptions last year for us. Justin Moreno has experience coming back. He started some games for us last year. So, we have two pretty good inside linebackers returning. The other outside linebacker is Taylor Geib. He played a lot for us last year. We have another kid with some experience at outside linebacker, he is Dan Kolk. Marc Royer has some experience and could help us out. I feel we have four experienced players returning at linebacker positions.”

How’s your secondary?

“We have two of the four guys returning from last year. Nick Brubaker was our starting safety for us last year. Andrew Seiverling played a lot of corner for us. Matt Carter is a guy that could play safety or corner for us this year. We have some other guys in the mix.”

What are your keys this year?

“We need to improve our defense from last year. That was our weak spot. We feel like we can do that and that is our main focus this year. I think offensively we have a lot of potential. We need to be consistent and have balance.”

Your program could hit a milestone this year. Talk about it.

“Our program’s all-time wins are at 493. So if we have a good year we can reach a milestone and join the 500 win club.”
