tamaquaThis past weekend Senior Running Back Tyler Hope rushed for 350-yards on 26 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 32-14 win over Schuylkill Haven.

“Our line did a great job against a physical Schuylkill Haven defense. Cody Houser, Devin Murphy, Nick Coccio, Nathan Bastanzi and Tyler Andrews blocked well that night,” said head football coach Sam Bonner. “Our tight end Trevor Skripko did a good job blocking on the line.”

Hope’s 350-yard performance broke his Uncle’s previous record. In 1989,  Jim Hope rushed for 331-yards.

Tyler has seen limited action due to a injury during the offseason. “He’s a heck of a running back, but he has had a rough start to the year. He’s coming off a lower back fracture. He has played limited time the last three or four weeks for us. He’s only played about 10 quarters of football.”

In four games he has rushed for 648 yards on 57 carries (11.37 yards per carry) and eight touchdowns. “We had to bring him back slowly. We are going series by series since he’s been back.”

Against Shenandoah Valley he had three carries and nine carries against North Schuylkill. “We are going on what he can tolerate and sometimes when you are winning the game it is easier to tolerate the pain like he did the other night.”

“He is an impressive athlete. When he is healthy he is one of our stronger kids.”

Hope also throws the javelin. “As a sophomore in states he took second in Javelin.”
