The Whitehall football team did exactly what they needed to do last night in front of Senior Night Crowd at Zephyr Stadium. The first was to defeat Northampton to clinch a tie for LVC title. In doing so they retained The Cement Bowl Trophy. The second was to keep themselves healthy as district playoffs begin next week.
They accomplished the first goal with a convincing 41-20 victory over the K-Kids. By the time the first half concluded, the Zephyrs went to their backups to finish out the final two quarters. With the win Whitehall should be the second seed in the D11/2/4 subregional playoffs and will more than likely face the Bears of Pleasant Valley at Zephyr Stadium Friday night.
“It was a good win for our kids tonight,” stated Whitehall coach Brian Gilbert after receiving the LVC trophy. “We were able to rest our starters in the second half so we are in good shape.” He concluded.
Whitehall jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the opening period and never looked back en route to a 41-6 lead at intermission. Junior RB Saquon Barkley found the end zone three times, twice via the ground game and one through the air in the half. The second half was played under the mercy rule.
