FOUNTAIN SPRINGS – Schuylkill Haven drove right down the field on its opening possession to take a 7-0 lead on North Schuylkill. That was all the offense North Schuylkill “D” would allow all night. Their offense took advantage of good field position inside Schuylkill Haven territory on three drives to earn a 17-7 win over Schuylkill Haven Friday night.

The Hurricanes (Schuylkill Haven) drove on their opening drive 71 yards on seven plays. Running back Evan Fink dove in from the one yard line for the score. The Hurricanes led 7-0.

In the second quarter the Spartans got great field position and they capitalized.

Following a punt by Schuylkill Haven, the Spartans took over at the Hurricanes 22 yard line. Three plays later Tom Ferrari hit Steve Ennis for a 21-yard score. The Hurricanes blocked the extra point and led 7-6 with 9:35 to go in the half.

After a three-and-out by the Hurricanes the Spartans took over at the 14-yard line. Ed Pavalko finished the drive with a one yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was good by Ferrari to Scott Houser. This gave North Schuylkill the 14-7 lead.

The final score by the Spartans came when Charlie Hutnick kicked a 30-yard field goal for a 17-7 lead.

Head coach Mike Farr of Schuylkill Haven said, “They made plays and we didn’t make plays tonight.”

Neither team could find the end zone in the second half and North Schuylkill won 17-7.

The Hurricanes entered the game averaging 396 yards of total offense (345 yards on the ground). Tonight they were limited to 98 yards.

North Schuylkill (4-0) travels to Marian Catholic next Friday night. Schuylkill Haven (3-1) looks to rebound at home against Panther Valley (3-1).
