Wow, yet another exciting week of high school football action throughout Pennsylvania. It is hard to believe that 6 weeks have passed since the opening of the season. Here we go with coverage of Week No. 6 action.

The big news in District 2 is NORTH POCONO knocking off previously undefeated ABINGTON HEIGHTS 29-21 at home. The Trojans, who were undefeated until last weekend’s loss to DELAWARE VALLEY, were inspired for the big home win and spoiling the Comets bid for a perfect season. Ironically, both are AAA teams and as noted in our television coverage for Electric City Television, Comcast (Scranton area) Channels 19 and 21, the Trojans and Comets may very well meet again in the District 2 Playoffs. NORTH POCONO QB, Matt Smith has been the big playmaker for the
Trojans all season long thus far.

In AA ball, DUNMORE continues to rule the roost with a 54-8 rout of MONTROSE. Head Coach Jack Henzes has yet another juggernaut worthy of a serious run in the playoffs for State Honors. Remember well the 2007 Bucks finishing Runnerup to mighty JEANNETTE, led by now OHIO STATE BUCKEYE star, Terrell Pryor. Also, the Bucks were Quarterfinal contenders in 2008 before being upended by a dynamic WEST CATHOLIC team, which finished as Runnerup in a classic overtime battle with eventual AA State Champion, WILMINGTON.

In A competition, OLD FORGE continues to look impressive and stays unbeaten courtesy of a 40-0 shutout victory over HOLY CROSS. Head Coach, Mike Schuback

Has a serious contender for A honors and a potential State Title team in the 2009 Blue Devils. SCRANTON PREP moved to 5-1 with a big win over RIVERSIDE 45-16. Head Coach, Nick Donato has the Cavaliers started in the right direction for the 2009 campaign. MID VALLEY picked up another nice win 35-22 over a previously one loss team in SUSQUEHANNA. Sabers Head Coach, Dick Bagnall has a talented team at SUSQUEHANNA, but the Spartans of MID VALLEY used an opportunistic defense to turn around a close game and secure the win for Head Coach, Frank Pazzaglia and MID VALLEY.

VALLEY VIEW picked up its second win with a nice 47-21 win over a highly regarded and improved WESTERN WAYNE ball club. Look for a huge matchup in coming weeks for AA competition when the Cougars of VALLEY VIEW play DUNMORE. VALLEY VIEW will sure look to be the spoiler. BERWICK handed WEST SCRANTON a 28-21 defeat at Scranton Memorial Stadium on Friday night. The Bulldogs bounced back after a tough loss to a highly deserving SELINSGROVE team, who continues to impress in the AAA State Class and holds a No. 2 seed in the State. WALLENPAUPACK got back on the winning track with a 14-0 win over SCRANTON. DELAWARE VALLEY secured a big 55-16 victory over HONESDALE. The Warriors have been impressive in recent weeks, including last weekend’s win over NORTH POCONO. Finally, CARBONDALE beat LACKAWANNA TRAIL 48-14 to keep the Chargers on the winning track.

Good Luck to all teams on the upcoming Week No. 7.
