phila_mcdevitt_aWyncote, Pa- Following an extensive search we are pleased to announce that Michael Watkins’99 has been named McDevitt’s Head Football Coach. Steve Finley, President, stated that , “We had many strong candidates, however we felt Mike was the best suited to build on the strong year we had last year , winning the District 12 Championship and advancing to the State Quarter Finals. With much of the core of the team returning we felt promoting internally was in the best interest of the student-athletes and the program overall.”

Watkins has been on the coaching staff since 2014 as McDevitt’s Defensive Coordinator. “Mike’s philosophy for motivating young men to do their best, not only for themselves but for the entire team creates a challenging and exciting environment for our players”, says Athletic Director and former coach, Pat Manzi.

Watkins’ resume includes being a Defensive Coordinator with Princeton University, Athlete Outreach Coordinator and Sports Performance coach at Summit Sports Training Center, and Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at St. Joseph’s University. He plans to develop each student-athlete so they can grow into their full potential, academically and physically. With Watkins at the helm you can believe that he will continue McDevitt’s strong tradition of pride and reputation for excellence.
