GLENOLDEN: To say Interboro Head Coach Steve Lennox knows a thing or two about winning would be an understand considering this of the 17th seasons that Lennox has been Head Buc the Bucs have either won the Del Val League outright or share the title in 15 seasons including 11 consecutive. On Friday evening Adam Smith and the rest of 2009 Bucs made it 12 consecutive Del Val League Titles with their 20-13 over the visiting Battlin’Bulls of Glen Mills. “The kids are great the town, community and our boosters really support them.” is what Lennox would say about his team’s success.

On their second drive of the game the Battlin’ Bulls appeared to be poised to take a early lead but Smith would have other plans as he intercepted Jurell Smalls ending a Bulls drive that saw the Bulls drive down to Bucs 11 yard line.

The Bucs would take the lead on the second play of the second quarter when Brett Creigton connected with Josh Breen for the 12 yard strike.

On the ensuing drive the Battlin’ Bulls responded with nine 77 yard drive thanks in large part to the arm of Smalls. Smalls would cap the drive when he connected with Gabriel Yuille from 16 yards out. Filiberto Gonzalez extra point would be no good giving the Bucs the 7-6 lead.

On the ensuing drive the Bucs would add to their lead behind a eleven play 73 yard drive that was capped by 17 yard touchdown run by Charles Bolger. Rob Leone extra point would be no good giving the Bucs the 13-6 lead heading into the half.

After a 61 yard kickoff return by Joe Pfaff on the opening kick off of the second half the Bucs were in business and they took advantage of short field needing just five plays to make their lead 20-6 thanks to a five yard plunge by Bolger.

Smith would add another interception on Battlin’ Bulls second drive of the second half the Bucs would not be able to take advantage of the Bulls turnover.

The Bulls would make things interesting when they drove 38 yards on five plays with the help of a pass interference call and it would be Smalls legs that would take it on a bootleg in from 12 yards out cutting the Bucs lead down to 20-13. Smalls would finish the game with 145 yards passing

On the ensuing Bucs drive the Battlin Bulls defense would step it up and force the Bucs to a three and out. After a punt put the Bulls took over at the Bucs 40 yard line. The Bulls would drive down to the Bucs 21 facing a fourth and six Smalls connected with Eric Braxton, but Braxton would be stop an inch short by Smith to seal the Bucs victory and likely the first or second seed in District 1 AAA playoffs and pretty much ending the season for the Bulls who enter the game as the 15th seed in District 1 AAAA bracket. After the game, Smith said “Last year we share the (Del Val) championship and that was big but having this all on own is bigger.”
