Bethlehem, Pa – Emmaus’ defense stings the Hawks offense forcing numerous punts. Emmaus proves they are for real with a win against 2-0 Bethlehem Catholic.
Bethlehem Catholic gets on the board quick with an opening drive touchdown. Javon Clements hits Randy Terry with a 44-yard touchdown pass less than two minutes into the game. Antonio Taveras kicks the extra point to give the Hawks an early 7-0 lead. Emmaus answers with a Sone Ntoh 27-yard touchdown run with 6:50 left in the first quarter. The extra point is blocked. The Hawks lead 7-6. Carson Landis kicks a 47-yard field goal with three minutes left in the first quarter. Emmaus leads 9-6 after one quarter.
Hornet receiver Josh Artis catches a 17-yard touchdown pass from Hornet quarterback Derek Sheaffer with less than two minutes remaining in first half. Landis adds three points with a 48-yard field goal to end the half. Hornets lead the Hawks by a score of 19-7.
The Hawks score first in the second half with a Karim Powell 49-yard touchdown reception from Clements. The two-point conversion failed. Hornets still lead 19-13. The extra point is blocked and the Hornets lead the Hawks 25-19.
With 11:06 remaining in the game, PJ Weierbach returns an interception 27 yards for a Hawks touchdown. The extra point is no good and the score is tied at 25. Emmaus breaks the tie with an Artis six-yard touchdown pass from Sheaffer. Emmaus leads 32-25 with seven minutes remaining. A Hornet safety with 2:44 left gives Emmaus the 34-25 victory over Bethlehem Catholic. Emmaus starts season 3-0 while Bethlehem Catholic falls to 2-1.
