And so it continue for the Hawks, who find themselves atop the big school rankings once again.  Who cares if Prep is starting a quarterback who hasn’t even attempted a pass, or a running back in Mike Yeager who only ran for 191 yards and 5 touchdowns a season ago?  Gil Brooks has put this team on the winning track, especially since the middle ’90s, a stretch which has seen Prep rattle off a record of 133-32 (.806).  The question is this: can Prep get past the District 12 title game?  It has finished second in the PCL Red championships each of the last two seasons.

  1. I thought Parkland would win this game! I never would have thought it would have been a blowout, I expected a 1-2 TD win. Parkland lost their QB from last year and the QB play isn’t quite as good. Parkland killed themselves with turnovers and Prep being the solid team they are capitalized. They have a big line and good backs. Let’s also remember this is week one of the HS season, a lot can be said about that. A heck of a lot of teams have a chance to win the league/district in a lot of the districts! So yeah!

  2. i guess the prep isn’t “overrated” with a win at Parkland’s intimidating stadium of 9,000 screaming people.. I guess there is some decent football being played in the Philadelphia Catholic League. The Prep has been playing national powerhouses for years with some wins and some losses; Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, St Edwards in Ohio, St Ignatius in Cleveland, Brooklyn Poly Prep, Gilman in Baltimore, Pitts Central Catholic.. I can go on. Gil Brooks and the Prep players aren’t easy intimidated. I’d watch out for PCL teams to make a statement in the PIAA playoffs this year.

  3. St. Joe’s Prep wins 17-13. I guess that shows how you can’t assume one team is gonna dominate, especially when it’s the first game of the season.

  4. They are a good team, but it has been intimidating for many other teams to go to Parkland and see 9,000 screaming people in the stands in Red, 56 cheerleaders lining the field and then what looks like the Ohio State team taking the field. If they can be calm and not let emotions (and the Wing T) get to them, they have a real chance.

  5. I don’t know if this team is overrated or not. But they are ranked number 34 on espn’s top 50. I won’t believe the hype unless they absolutely dominate parkland.. Which i doubt

  6. I’m a PCL guy, but this ranking might be a little high at this time. They do have a tremendous offensive line, but lost every other member of the offense and seven defensive starters from last year’s team. They’ll be a good team, but it might take a while for them to gel in my opinion. When looking at their teams over the past eight years, this team isn’t even close to some of those other teams. At least as of now….

  7. I agree with everyone above. I wonder where they’ll end up after Parkland embarasses them this Friday night. #1 Big Shool…not even close

  8. I guess nobody was at their first scrimmage against West Catholic when a 2AA team just gave them the business all through the scrimmage. I am wondering what a game between these 2 would be like but if it was anything like the scrimmage i see West Catholic on top by 3 touchdowns.

  9. this is a well overrated team. I was at their scrimmage against council rock south and was not impressed at all. Only time will tell if prep truly deserves the number one spot.

  10. Reagrdless of whether the Hawks win D12 or not, they will find that D1, D2, and D11 play a better brand of football.

I think you’ve overestimated this club.
