2017 Class 5A Coach of the Year, Steve Devlin, Archbishop Wood

In 2017, Archbishop Wood started the season in Florida with a 14-13 win over Oxbridge Academy. They played three power programs the next three games, Paramus Catholic (NJ), Bergen Catholic (NJ) and Saint Joseph’s Prep.

“We had a great year led by our senior leadership,” said Devlin. “We played a very tough out of state schedule and got better each week.”

Heading into their fifth game they had a 2-2 record. They ripped off 10 straight wins in route to their fifth PIAA State title since 2011 in their seventh overall appearance. His team finished 12-2.

“We played our best football at the end of the season when you want and need to. Credit to all the coaches and players for all the hard work.”

Devlin has coached 11 season and has a record of 132-22.
