Dallas Mountaineers
Head Coach: Ted Jackson
2009 Record/Finish: 3-0, 10-2 (T-1st Place)
District/Conference: District 2/Wyoming Valley Conference
Class: AAA
Last Playoff Appearance: 2009
2009 Points Per Game
Points Scored: 23.8
Points Allowed: 13.8
Notes: Not sure which stat is more impressive. The fact that the Mountaineers improved on scoring offense (8.4 to 23.8) or in scoring defense (24.0 to 13.8) within one year.
When a dependable playoff program like Dallas finishes a season at 2-8, it has a lot of people scratching their heads. However, as we all realized early on last year that the 2008 season was nothing more than a mirage. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 8-0 start. Dallas lost a heartbreaker to Berwick, 14-13, the day before Halloween.
The defense was stellar as they only allowed two teams all year to score more than fourteen points in a game. Through week six, the Mountaineers defense had held their opponents to an average of 9.2 points.
Year number twenty-six for head coach Ted Jackson will have to wait to begin until week five. Jackson was suspended by the PIAA after an incident in Tunkhannock last fall. The coach can not have any contact with his football team until the completion of the fourth game of the 2010 season.
