CHESTER PA: Usually if you commit five turnovers your team loses, however on Saturday Morning at Chester Upland Athletic Complex that was not the case as the visiting West Chester Henderson Warriors overcame five turnovers including three fumbles to come back and beat the Chester Clippers 13-12. Warrior coach Joe Walsh said “We dodge a big bullet all the credit goes to Chester they are great opponent we kept hurting ourselves and putting ourselves in bad situations and we just had enough at end to win the game.
On their first drive of the ball game the Warriors managed to drive down to the Clipper ten yard line before the Clipper’s D forced a fumble on fourth and four from the ten. Martin Turner came out with the fumble. The Clipper’s would respond by 87 yards on seven plays thanks in large part to the arm of Sr. QB D’Ryn Harris who completed five of six passes for 71 yards including the 28 yard touchdown pass to Sr. Wide Receiver Maurice Nelson. The extra point attempt would be blocked putting the Clippers ahead 6-0 Harris would finish the game completing nine of 20 passes for 118 of his teams 124 total yards of offense.
From that point on it was the Clipper’s defense that shine up until the first of the second half when the Warriors would strike going 65 yards on 11 plays before Ryan Brewer powered his way in from a yard on the drives 12th play. Kyle Morton would add the extra point giving the Warriors the 7-6 lead.
The Warrior’s lead would be short lived however, as on the ensuing kickoff Anthony Davis picked up ball and went off to races going 82 yards. The extra point would be no good giving the Clippers the 12-7 lead.
The Warriors responded in fourth quarter with a three headed rushing monster of Brewer, Alexander Sontag and Jacob Richard. The trio led a fourth quarter drive that went 72 yards on 11 plays that ate 4:14 off the game clock before Morton again would punch it in from a yard out. The two point conversion run would fail putting the Warriors back in the lead at 13-12. Brewer would finish the game with 12 rushes for 47 yards. When asked about his performance Brewer said “During practice we do a lot of power, we run the ball we’re very good opition team I believe our offensive line really proved themselves today.”
Up next for the Warrior’s is Great Valley while the Clippers will travel to Aston to take on neighborhood rivals Sun Valley Friday night at 7 pm.
