Berwick 32 Crestwood 14

Crestwood was looking to accomplish something that no other Comet team had done in school history – to defeat the mighty Berwick Bulldogs.

In the first half of the contest, it appeared as if this feat may be accomplished as the Comets went into the intermission with a 7-6 lead. However, the final twenty-four minutes would be much different as Berwick blocked a 19-yard field goal attempt with twenty-seconds left in the first half.

Momentum was on the side of the home team as the Bulldogs scored twenty-six unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Comets, 32-14. Berwick’s junior quarterback Jared Pierce combined to score 5 touchdowns (4 passing and 1 rushing). Pierce slung two of his four scores through the air to 6’5 senior Eric Schleich. Pierce threw for 202 yards while completing seven passes. On the defensive side of the ball, senior rush end Roy Dennis made a living in the backfield as he was charged with 7 tackles, 1 quarterback sacks, 1 forced fumble and a recovery.

Berwick appeared to start sluggish but really turned it on in the second half where the Dawgs dominated the line of scrimmage. The Bulldogs are ranked #1 in WNEP’s (Channel 16) Super 16 Countdown.
