A scoreless first half saw a defensive struggle which was won by the play of special teams.
The Lackawanna Division rushing leader James Fruehan was held in check by the Cougar defense all night surging out of the backfield for only 19-yards on 10 carries. However, minutes into the second half, Fruehan would not be denied as he put Abington Heights on the board first with a 69-yard punt return for a score.
Abington Heights would add to their lead by posting a Charlie Armetta 25-yard field goal to expand their grip to 10-0.
Valley View marched down the field and found pay dirt on a 22-yard touchdown strike from Liam Gallejas to Brian Lalli.
Late in the contest, the Cougars down 10-7, on fourth down Gallejas looking for Lalli in the right corner of the endzone but Fruehan gets his hand on the ball and bats the ball away. Abington Heights (6-0) snaps Valley View’s four-game win streak by a score of 10-7.
The Comets rushing attack was led by Paul Gallagher’s 77 yards on 15 totes.
Valley View’s top rusher was Pat Jeffers who compiled 67 yards on 24 carries. Lalli caught three of Gallejas’ five completions.
Next week, Abington will welcome Scranton Prep on Saturday as Valley View (4-2) hosts Delaware Valley on Friday.
