(Shillington, PA)  The Northern York Polar Bears and Governor Mifflin Mustangs came into Fridays PIAA District Three 5A first round matchup with identical (7-3) regular season records. It is always intriguing  in the District Three post season  when any Mid Penn Conference team and a Berks League Team face off. Governor Mifflin took command early in this game and pulled away in the second half to post a convincing 54-14 win against Northern York.

The Mustangs offensive outburst was paced  by Quarterback Kolby Reeser and Running Back Nick Singleton. Reeser ran for four scores and passed for another. Singleton’s 202 rushing yards included TD runs of 59 and 51 yards.  Nick also set the single season TD record for Governor Mifflin in the game.

“We just gave it to them tonight, we had a really good night” said Reeser after the win.  Kolby could not help but look forward to Mifflin’s next opponent Cocalico.  “I think a lot of people are going to go with Cocalico in the game, quite honestly I like being the underdog, and we are going to come ready Friday night.”  Mifflin Head Coach Jeff Lang said “we were licking our chops at the 4-4 defense, to stop our option game it is pretty darn tough.”  Commenting on the energy generated by Sophomore Nick Singletons TD runs, “he wants the ball, he wants to run hard, he wants to play hard, thank God he is on our team and not on another team.”

Governor Mifflin took the opening kick and methodically moved down the field.  Quarterback Kolbie Reeser gave Mifflin a 7-0 lead.

Mifflin had the 7-0 after quarter one.  Nick Singleton’s first of his two TDs extended the Mustang lead in quarter two to 14-0 over Northern.

Just watch the effort  by Northern’s Kyle Swartz to get the Polar Bears on the board in the 2nd quarter

It did not take Reeser and Governor Mifflin long to answer and head into halftime leading 21-7

Nick Singleton began the Mifflin 2nd half domination

Some on side kick trickeration put Mifflin back and business and Reeser cashed it in quickly.

Quarterback Reeser’s awesome night continued on the next Mifflin possession.

Lets not forget the Air for Mifflin.  Kolbie’s toss to CamRon Stewart was the icing on the cake for the Mustangs

Late TD’s by Northern’s Kyle Swartz and Mifflins  Jaden Quiles made the final Governor Mifflin 54 Northern York 14.

Mifflin moves on next week to face District Three 5A #1 seed Cocalico  Cocalico beat Mifflin in week three 26-14.  The Polar Bears fine season ends with a record of (7-4)
