The top spot in the Lackawanna Football Conference’s Division 2 will be on the line this Friday when the Chiefs of Lakeland travel to Taylor to take on Riverside.
Harry Armstrong’s Vikings are unbeaten (8-0) this year after brushing off a tough 2009 season which saw Riverside post a 4-8 record. Last year, the Vikes qualified for the District II playoffs and dropped undefeated Old Forge, 30-14. The red and blue are coming off of a, 49-6, thumping of Carbondale. Nick Rossi, 6’1, 235-lb senior running back, scampered for three scores in their lopsided win over the Chargers. Over the course of the Vikings last three contests, Riverside’s offense has produced 45 points per game. Riverside (8-0) is not only ranked #6 in the EasternPAFootball.com’s Small School Ranking this week but they are also #5 in WNEP Channel 16’s Super Sixteen Countdown.
Lakeland (7-1) led Honesdale, 35-0, at intermission a week ago as they rolled to a 35-7 win. Jeff Wasilchak’s group has won five consecutive games. This week on the WNEP Channel 16 Super Sixteen Countdown, the Chiefs register at #15. Lakeland has the highest winning percentage of any school in District II since 2000 (109-25) with a 81.3% victory rate.
