Valley West gets back on track with win against Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley made the trip to Kingston from the Poconos in week five as the Valley West Spartans played host on gridiron Friday in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Both teams came in with a record of 1-3, but considering strength of schedule the Spartans came in as the favorite.

Valley West proved to be the favorite, pushing the Bears into the mercy rule late in the 3rd quarter.

For a team that has been written off by just about all the local media outlets, the “Golden Domes” shine bright tonight in Spartan land.

The Spartans offense was lead by Sr. QB Jack Crossing with nine carries for 158 yards and two TD’s, while Sr. RB Dave “Rhino” Ryncavage rushed for 110 yards on 11 carries with two TD’s.

The offensive line gets an “A” tonight, which is a big change from how sluggish they have looked in past games.

As for the defense, when you put zeros up your doing something right. The Spartans “D” was stellar tonight, rushing the QB and being very disruptive. Pleasant Valley looked much overmatch throughout the night.

Crossin would be the first to find paydirt and he didn’t take much time looking, scampering 68 yards to the gold zone on the opening play from scrimmage. McGuiness nailed the PAT with the score Spartans 7 PV 0.

So. RB George Simms was the next to find the scoreboard, capping a scoring drive on a three yard jaunt.

Simms would add another score after Sr. WR Ali Muhammad hauled in a long pass from Crossin setting the table.

Crossin also added another score on an eight yard jaunt and Ryncavage would strike on a six yard and a 20 yard rumble.

Sr. RB Rasheed Williams did not dress tonight along with Jr. LB Christian Martinez.

“We tried to get some guys healthy tonight, we have a few guys banged up, noted Spartan’s Head Coach George Curry during his post game interview.

Valley West will travel to the Poconos next Friday night as Stroudsburg will play host. The Spartans will have to keep the intensity up, a letdown at any point of the season now will put a lid on it.

And by the way, before anyone dots the period on that paragraph that wrote off Valley West in week four, 7-3 makes the playoffs.
