District 11 top returning players WEEK 9 2020

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Josh Chowansky of North Schuylkill rushed for 252 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Tamaqua.  Chowansky needs 6 more yards to reach 1,000 yards for the season.  Matt Frauen of Notre Dame rushed for 231 yards and a td in their win over Jim Thorpe.  Frauen went over 1,000 yards rushing on the season and now has 1,097 yards.  He’s scored 21 td’s this season and 35 over the last 2 years at Notre Dame.  Gio Hines of Salisbury had his first 200-yard rushing game when the Falcons defeated Allen last week.  Hines had exactly 200 yards and scored 2 td’s.  Ben Terry of Mahanoy Area leads the District in rushing with 1,185 yards.  Terry is also tied with Frauen for the District touchdown lead with his 21 td’s this season.  Mason Smeland of Palisades went over 1,000 yards on the season and currently has 1,106 yards.  Smeland has scored 20 td’s this season and has scored 39 td’s in his career. Sophomore Conner Goehring of Schuylkill Haven also went over 1,000 yards on the season last week.  Goehring has rushed for 1,017 yards and scored 15 td’s this season.

QUARTERBACKS:

Jake Fotta of Emmaus threw for a school-record 339 yards and 2 td’s in their loss to Easton.  Andy Shaver held the old record when he threw for 275 yards in a game back in 1992 as a junior.  Shaver threw for 1,802 yards as a junior and 1,848 yards in his senior season while throwing for 10 td’s in each season.  Add in his sophomore season stats and Shaver is the Green Hornets career record holder for passing yards with 3,684 yards.  Fotta went over 1,000 yards for the season (1,068 yards).  Bryce Herb leads the District with his 1,875 yards passing and 24 td passes.  Herb threw 3 td’s last week and now has 66 career td passes.  He moves up from 16th to 14th on the all-time District list after jumping ahead of both Corey Cinicola of Jim Thorpe (2006-09) and Devante Cross of Parkland (2013-15).  Cinicola and Cross each threw 64 career td passes.  Jake Hall of North Schuylkill had a 6-td game last week as he threw for 175 yards and 2 td’s while rushing for 85 yards and 4 td’s.  Hall has thrown for 1,680 yards and 23 td’s this season.  Collin Quintano of Notre Dame also had a 6-td game last week.  Quintano threw for 287 yards and 4 td’s while rushing for 96 yards and 2 td’s.  Josh Leininger of Pine Grove had his 4th 200-yard passing game last week in their win over Pequea Valley.  Leininger threw for 219 yards and 3 td’s in the game to improve his passing totals to 1,324 yards and 11 td’s this season.  Justin Holmes of Northwestern threw for 256 yards and 3 td’s while also rushing for 145 yards and 2 td’s.  The junior has thrown for 1,333 yards and 18 td passes while rushing for 962 yards and 13 td’s this season.  Freshman qb Conner Schwalm of Minersville has thrown for 1,577 yards and 16 td passes this season.  On the District all-time freshman list, he moves ahead of Dan Kendra III of Bethlehem Catholic (1,434 yards in 1991) and Ryan Fry of Nazareth (1,437 yards in 1995) and into 3rd place.  AJ Long of Pius X holds the record when he threw for 2,852 yards and 28 td’s in 2010.  In second place is Deven Bollinger of Northwestern who threw for 1,872 yards and 20 td’s in 2016.  Jonas McGrath of Tri-Valley went over 1,000 yards passing in his career last week in their win over Nativity.  McGrath a junior now has 1,029 career yards passing.

RECEIVERS:

Shea Morgan of Pine Grove caught 8 passes last week to break the career school record.   Morgan now has 108 career catches which are 4 more than former record holder Larry Zimmerman caught from 2008-2011.  Zimmerman still holds the career yardage (1,900 yards) and career td reception record (27).  Morgan leads the District this season with 55 catches and 923 receiving yards.  His 12 td receptions this year ties Zimmerman’s school record of 12 that he set in 2010 and tied in 2011.  Chad Parton of Salisbury is second in the District with his 50 catches for 899 yards.  Parton is the first Falcon to have multiple seasons with 50 or more catches.  Other Falcon single season 50 catch players are Chris Burda who caught 50 passes in 1998, Joey Remmel caught 55 in 2006, John Gardus caught 56 in 2007, Mason Donaldson had 50 in 2015, and Parton set the school-record with his 57 catches last season.  Parton also tied Donaldson’s career td reception record of 22.  Zack Hunsicker of Lehighton is now the Indians career leader for receptions and reception yardage.  Hunsicker has 114 career catches netting 1,732 yards.  Lehighton has 2 other 100 catch receivers.  Jacen Nalesnik caught 111 for 1,604 yards from 2009-12 and Shane McEvoy caught 102 for 1,642 yards from 2005-07.  Chris Strika of Jim Thorpe caught 4 passes for 150 yards and a td in their loss to Notre Dame.

1968  Jim Kugler of Saucon Valley (Hellertown): 10 of 11 for 372 yards and 7 td’s in a 51-7 win over Pen Argyl

1968  Gary Van Norman of Northern Lehigh (Slatington): 14 of 26 for 336 yards and 5 td’s in a 64-6 win over East Stroudsburg

1969  Steve Menhennitt of Bangor: 16 of 26 for 344 yards and 6 td’s in a 47-24 win over Palmerton

1969  Don Rubright of Northern Lehigh (Slatington): 13 of 18 for 325 yards and 6 td’s in a 54-0 win over Catasauqua
