The Valley View Cougars figure to be one of the better teams in the landscape of District 2 AAA competition in the coming season. One of the key returning pieces to the Cougars’ possible run toward a District football crown is senior-to-be Nyeem Wartman.
The 6’3, 230-pound Wartman has seven verbal Division-1 offers to his credit, according to national recruiting service Rivals.com. Akron, Boston College, Florida, North Carolina State, Penn State, Rutgers and Temple have all offered the Cougars’ athlete, and schools like Miami *(FL), Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern and Pitt have shown interest in Wartman.
Wartman has played both on offense and defense for the Cougars the last two seasons. As a junior, he tallied 115 tackles (70 solo), an interception and three fumble recoveries, and also caught 13 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. As a sophomore, Wartman tallied 68 tackles (53 solo), an interception and a fumble recovery and caught another eight passes for 113 yards.
Valley View finished 7-5 in 2010, winning the Eastern Conference AAA football championship over Berwick, 35-21.
