Who has the best nickname in Eastern PA? Among some of the names I like are Abraham Lincoln “Rail Splitters” and Boiling Springs “Bubblers”. Who are yours?

The Ben Franklin Electrons is pretty neat but the Speedboys of West Phila. High is great. Over in Jersey the Don Bosco Prep Ironmen is cool and always liked the uniqueness and simplicity of the Vineland Clan.

I AGREE WITH MIO.
THE ABINGTON GALLOPING GHOSTS HAVE TO BE THE BEST NICKNAME. JUST CONSIDER HOW THEY CHOSE IT.
BACK IN 1931 AMERICA’S MOST FAMOUS COLLEGE FOOTBALL STAR HAROLD “RED” GRANGE, “THE GALLOPING GHOST” BECAUSE OF HIS ELUSIVENESS ON THE GRIDIRON, CAME TO ABINGTON HIGH SCHOOL AND GAVE A SPEECH. HE HAD BEEN A TEAM MATE OF THE THEN ABINGTON COACH GLENN SNODGRASS ON THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS FOOTBALL TEAM. THE STUDENTS WERE SO EXCITED BY GRANGE’S VISIT THAT THEY GAVE THEMSELVES HIS NICKNAME 80 YEARS AGO TO HONOR HIM.

As an alumni, I must put in the Northampton Area Konkrete Kids. However, William Allen’s nickname is the Canaries. At first it sounds pretty lame. But their arch rival in the early part of the 20th century was Bethlehem (Liberty) which is the Hurricanes. Folklore says that a canary is the only bird that can fly through a hurricane. True or not, I don’t know. But, still a pretty cool tale to tell.
