ROSETO – This Saturday, Pius X will have played three games since Oct. 18th. Pius X won Saturday 42-0 over Fleetwood. This afternoon Pius X ran off 35 points before Carson Long Military got on the scoreboard with a safety. The mercy rule went into effect as The Royals ruled Carson Long Military 42-14 on Monday afternoon.
The Royals took the opening kickoff and drove 65 yards for the score. Quarterback Anthony Casciano completed three passes in the drive. The big play of the drive came when Michael Thomas took the hand-off and darted 33-yards for the score. Scott Douglas’ extra point gave the Royals a 7-0 lead.
Carson Long started on their 35 yard line after the kickoff went out of bounds. Carson Long’s drive would end quickly when Jake Giovannini of Pius X stepped in front of the pass and intercepted the ball for the 55-yard touchdown. Pius X led 14-0.
The Royals defense forced a three and out on the next possession of Carson Long. The Royals offense took only three plays to score their third touchdown. Thomas would score on a 65-yard touchdown run with 3:51 to go in the first quarter. The Royals weren’t done scoring in the quarter. After another three and out by Carson Long, the Royals next drive took only six plays for the score. Casciano would hit a wide open Thomas in the end zone for a 25-yard score. The Royals led 28-0 after one quarter.
The biggest play of the game came with 10:51 to go before halftime after a punt by Carson Long down to the Royals two-yard line. Thomas took the handoff and darted down the sideline for the 98-yard touchdown run. The Royals led 35-0.
Michael Thomas only played one and a half quarters. Thomas had five carries for 205 yards and one reception for a 25-yard touchdown. Rob Goffredo talked about his senior running back saying, “Mike plays so hard every play.”
Carson Long had to punt again on their next drive and what a punt it was, down to the Royals one-yard line. Two plays later Carson Long finally got on the scoreboard. Waddie Lattimer stopped Nick De Rea for the safety. With 6:48 to go in the first half the Royals led 35-2.
Carson Long’s offense seemed in reverse during the first half. The first play of the next drive Luke De Luise of Pius X sacked Martin for an 18 yard loss. Carson Long’s third play of the drive resulted in a fumble which was recovered by the Royals. Three plays later Nick Goffredo went in for a one-yard touchdown run. The Royals led 42-2.
Carson Long’s best drive came at the end after a 12 play drive right before halftime. The half would end on a Martin incomplete pass and Carson Long came up empty. The Royals went into halftime with a commanding 42-2 lead.
Carson Long took some of the momentum from the last drive right before halftime and scored on their opening drive of the second half. Martin would hit Theo Branch for the 50-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was no good and the Royals led 42-8.
The Royals would run off 19 plays on there next drive and had two consecutive touchdowns called back during the drive. After all this the Royals turned the ball over on downs to Carson Long on there 16 yard line. It took only four plays for Carson Long to score on their next drive. Martin would hit Adieme Bankole-Thomas for a 39-yard touchdown pass. Goffredo of Pius X would block the extra point. The Royals led 42-14.
With 3:58 to go in the game the Royals would run the clock out for the 42-14 victory. The Royals in two games have out scored their opponents 84-14. The Royals had 394 yards of total offense while giving up only 185 yards. With the win, the Royals move to 3-5 and will be home for the third straight game when they face Sussex Tech (NJ) on the 25th of Oct.
