Offensive Player of the Week:
Samaj Jones – St. Joseph’s Prep – QB – Junior
Jones put forth a record-setting performance this past weekend when the Hawks absolutely dismantled the 3rd-ranked team from NJ in St. Peter’s Prep, 55-20. All he did was set a PCL and school record for passing with 420 yards. He needed just 12 completions in 14 attempts to unleash this damage. That’s a whopping 30.0 yards per attempt. Seven of those completions when for touchdowns to four different receivers. Jones added an 8th score on the ground and totaled 38 yards on 6 carries. The seven touchdown passes tied a city record with three others. Behind Jones, the Hawks’ offense scored on seven straight possessions to start the game. On their 8th possession, they took a knee prior to halftime but picked up where they left off in scoring on their initial 2nd half series. All totaled, Jones and Co. racked up 587 yards of offense.
Defensive Player of the Week:
Jamieal Lyons – Roman Catholic – DE – Senior
The impressive Penn St. signee made his presence felt often in the Cahillites’, 41-14, whitewashing of Trinity. The sturdy, athletic Lyons had a pair of sacks and two other TFLs amongst his six stops in the game. He also added a pass defense at the line-of-scrimmage. Lyons has spearheaded an athletic Roman defense during two impressive road wins to start the season. This week the Cahillites held Trinity to just 11 yards rushing in the game.
Special Teams Player of the Week:
Nick Rogers – Archbishop Ryan – DE – Junior
Rogers scooped up a blocked punt and returned it two yards for a Raiders score in their, 34-0, blanking of Frankford. This play was just one of a few that the rangy Rogers made his presence felt. Defensively, he notched a sack amongst his four tackles, while adding a fumble recovery and a pass defense from his defensive end position. Rogers assisted in a solid team effort defensively by holding the Pioneers to just 97 yards of offense, including a minus-16 showing on the ground.
