Week Ten of the 2011 High School football regular season should be exciting, with conference titles and playoff berths on the line. There are also those classic and histoic rivalry battles. Let’s take a look at rivalry week and let us know why your game is special.

  1. Without a doubt, the “Coal bucket” These two teams go at it like there very lives depended on it. The history of the Red Tornado’s of Mt. Carmel and the never give up Indians of Shamokin make this the all time classic rivals.

  2. Lower Merion vs. Radnor. 115th consecutive Game. Longest standing public rivalry in the country. Always a great game

  3. Neshaminy dominated Pennsbury. Pennsbury game plan not creative and rather boring, the team didn’t stand a chance with the poor coaching performance.Schmidt of Neshaminy deserves alot of credit with his game prep, very good coach. The officiating was the worse I’ve seen in years.

  4. Pen Argyl vs. Bangor

At one time it was a Thanksgiving Day game. This is one of the greatest rivalries ever!

  5. Here are some of my favorite ones..

    1) Easton Area vs. Phillipsburg NJ – The annual Thanksgiving game has drawn as many as 20,000 fans. The two cities are separated by a bridge the crosses the Delaware River. This game has been televised on ESPN a couple of times. They even did a replay game of the 1993 game.

    2) Mount Carmel vs. Shamokin – This game is known as the “Coal Bucket Game”.

    3) Pottsville vs. Reading – Pottsville won last year’s “Lump of Coal” trophy with a 29-21 OT win over Reading.

    4) Stroudsburg vs. East Stroudsburg South – These teams battle every Thanksgiving for the chance to keep the “Little Brown Jug”.

  6. Liberty vs Freedom with a district playoff berth on the line for both teams….if Freedom wins itll be the first time since 1987 Freedom beats becahi and liberty in the same season for the bethlehem city title

  7. Daniel Boone-Exeter. Greatest rivalry in berks county, and with Exeter being a playoff team for the first time since 2004, should be a great game

  8. The Neshaminy Pennsbury game is huge. Can anyone text me the score as it happens? I will be happy to provide you with my email or cell number…

  9. Montoursville Loyalsock

The Annual Battle for the Bridge

I know Sock is struggling this year, but it is one of the biggest rivalries in AA in the State. It is important for Montoursville to win this game, either for D4 AA playoff points, or a bid in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

  10. Around Lower Bucks County, Neshaminy-Pennsbury packs the traditional back yard brawl heat and more often than not impacts playoff seatings. Also, two great bands provide added amps to the filled stadium (may I suggest adding a new fun feature to the traditon; have both bands perform together at halftime)

  11. Central Columbia vs. Bloomsburg

The past 10 meetings between these two squads have been close games. Central always seems to find a way to hang in there with the usually better Bloomsburg team. With no playoffs for Central this is the big one for them. For Bloomsburg the past two weeks have been playoffs for them so look for a great matchup for the “Battle for the Burg.” Bloomsburg is also looking to wrap up a District 4 playoff spot.

  12. Liberty vs. Freedom.

The two Bethlehem schools will be duking it out for a spot in the District playoffs. What a way to end the season for these two.

  13. Pine Grove (9-0) vs. Line Mountain (8-1)

Both are undefeated in the Twin Valley Conference, so this will determine the champion. Both teams have been flat-out steam rolling over their opponents all season, aside from LM’s lone loss, their season opener against Southern Columbia. This game should be a great warm up for both teams to get them ready for the playoffs.

  14. The annual ‘Coal Bucket’ game between Mt. Carmel and Shamokin. Mt. Carmel has retained it for the last 15 years. Always a good one and, as they say, throw the records out the window!

  15. The Old Shoe Game; Dallas Vs Lehman. Lehman needs to win to secure a playoff berth and Dallas needs a win to be the number 1 seed in AAA, that should be enough incentive, but you can throw the record out. This will be a battle on Friday night.

  16. Garnet Valley @ Haverford

Garnet Valley already captured the Central League title but is looking to clinch homefield advantage in district 1. Haverford is coming in hot 3-1 in their last 4 games.

  17. Little brown jug game. Mifflinburg vs. Lewisburg. Special because it’s been one of the longest running rivalries in the state for awhile. Throw the record out in this one. Hard nosed football just like it should be!
