The Abington Heights Comets had won fifteen consecutive regular season games coming into this season. Since 2008, the Comets have posted a 34-5 record prior to tonight’s contest with Wyoming Valley West. Even with the Comets lofty record, the Wyoming Valley West Spartans were not fazed. Wyoming Valley West absolutely dominated the Comets from whistle to whistle by posting a 51-0 victory.
Tonight’s loss marked the first time that Abington Heights had been shut out since November 14, 2008 (Berwick defeated Abington Heights, 3-0).
One year ago, Abington Heights contained the Spartans’ Eugene Lewis to 51 yards rushing as the Comets went on to win, 38-14. Tonight, Lewis commanded Valley West. The Spartans led at halftime, 45-0.
Abington Heights (1-1) returns home to welcome Tunkhannock on Saturday. Pleasant Valley will make the trip to play Valley West (2-0) this Friday.
