SPRINGFIELD: For the first time in history the Springfield Delco Cougars hosted a home District playoff game their opponents for the historic occasion where fellow Delaware County school Academy Park. The guest were anything but good guest spoiling the historical with a convincing 35-10 upset in the first round of the District 1 AAA playoffs.
The Cougars drew first blood on their opening possession of the game when Ryan Strain connected with Matt Reichert for a 58 yard touchdown. The Knights responded on their ensuing drive with an eight play 69 yard drive capped by three yard run by Mark Doe to even things at the end of 1.
The Knights took the lead in the second quarter with a 14 yard scamper by QB Tyler Street. The Cougars next and final points of the season came following a fumble by Doe which was recover by Warren Allen and return to the Knights 12 yardline where the Cougar offense stalled resulting in a 32 yard field goal by Brad Lord to cut the deficit down to 14-10 at the half.
The Knights tacked on to their lead with 6:56 remaining when Caleeh Jeffery took it from 13 yards out. Jeffery would add a 26 yard TD run in the fourth quarter to make it 28-10. Jeffery finished the game 16 carries for 97 yards.
Doe put the capper on the game with his 20 yard touchdown. Doe carried the ball 21 times for 112 yards.
The Knights advance to the second round where they will face Phoenixville
