Monday night Athletic Director Bob Hartman announced that Brian Gilbert has been named the new head football coach. “We were looking to hire the best candidate for the position. We didn’t need to rush the hire, but after the posting closed, we thought we may be able to get it done quicker than expected,” said Hartman.
Gilbert replaces Tony Trisciani who left to become the defensive backs coach at Villanova University in January.
Gilbert was the head coach at Palisades from 2001 to 2009 and had a record of 61-43 with two District 11 titles.
Gilbert was on the Whitehall staff as the offensive coordinator the last two years. “I will still be the offensive coordinator,” said Gilbert. “I will be keeping the current staff, plus I am adding former Allentown Central Catholic head coach Harold Fairclough to the staff as a defensive back coach.”
Gilbert will try to build on last year’s team that went 8-4 in 2011. One of the key returning players is quarterback Nicholas Shafnisky.
