The Rough Riders of Catasauqua were playing in the state tournament for the first time since 1992 and they made the most of it by defeating Lake-Lehman 33-21. Despite turning the ball over 3 times and having 9 penalties, Catasauqua (12-1) will move onto play Imhotep Charter next week in the Class AA Quarterfinals. The Riders’ signal caller Zack Bradley tossed 5 touchdowns and threw for 253 yards. Bradley’s favorite target Parrys Marshall caught 6 balls for over 150 yards and 3 scores. The Rough Riders gained 318 yards of total offense. Catasauqua never trailed in the contest.
For the Black Knights, their season comes to a close at 11-2. Lake-Lehman had won 11 straight games since dropping their season opener to Old Forge (13-7), who just happened to beat Southern Columbia tonight. Lake-Lehman was making their first trip back to the state playoffs since 1997. Dustin Jones carried the football 38 of the teams’ 58 run plays for 201 yards. Jones also scored each of the Knights’ three touchdowns. Lake-Lehman was able to gain almost 400 yards of offense but fumbled the ball away three times.
Catasauqua’s only loss this season came against Northwestern Lehigh, 28-27, in their regular season finale in overtime.
