In a game that featured over 1,000 yards of total offense combined, it took 28 unanswered points by Conestoga to hold off Penncrest 56-40 in a Central League Halloween shoot out on Senior Night at Louis W. Scott Stadium.

With the win, the Pioneers (7-3 league and overall) are unoffically a 13 seed and could move up to 12 depending on games played on Saturday. Penncrest (8-2 league and overall) will drop to a 9 seed and likely travel  7 miles down Route 1 to neigboring Glen Mills next Friday nite.

There were plenty of treats as Stoga’s Bryan Barley returned 2 kickoffs for touchdowns of 95 and 92 yards and Penncrest’s Jerry Boyer went over 1,000 yards for the season with his 256 yard, 4 touchdown night on runs of 51, 80, 3 and 1 yards.

But there were a lot of tricks also.

Penncrest put the ball on the ground 3 times losing 2 on recoveries by Dan Van Norton and Bard Herzlich and a passinterception by Stoga’s Casey Ikeda. Also, the Penncrest kicking game was non-existant as the Lions had 1 extra point blocked and a bad snap on another attempt, along with allowing the 2 touchdown returns by Barley and a third return by Blair Brooks down to the 3 yard line.

“It was a matter of not so great executuion,” said Penncrest coach Paul Graham. “It just wasn’t our night.”
